I am currently a freshman at John Jay College of Criminal Justice just trying to raise awareness on a health concern that many people look over and don’t pay attention to and that is the dangers of smoking cigarettes. Many people start smoking cigarettes because they aren’t as well informed on what effects it can actually cause to their health and bodies in general. As a student in a time where Digital Spaces and social media are being used rhetorically for a plethora, I felt the need to create a space that might help inform people about these health concerns caused by smoking and direct them towards the appropriate places to gain more knowledge and from there ultimately go on the track the towards giving up smoking cigarettes all together.
I am currently a freshman at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a heavy supporter of a pro healthy lifestyle. In the past I have dealt with some of the most common health problems Americans are facing today; i am happy to say i have moved past these problems and am now living a much healthier lifestyle. Growing up I was always the smallest person in my group and usually one of the heaviest too. I also had asthma which made losing weight difficult for me. My weight and stature always held me back when I was playing sports whether it was on teams or with my friends. The heaviest I ever got was in high school when I weighed one hundred and seventy pounds which is borderline overweight for someone like me who was 5’8 at the time. During the summer of my sophomore year of high school a doctor’s visit helped me realize my weight problem to its full extent. The day after my visit I began running everywhere I could almost everyday even if it meant I had to wake up at five a.m. I began losing weight and started cleaning up my diet removing soda and other fast foods and replacing them with much healthier foods. I am happy to say almost 3 years later that I am now one hundred and sixty ponds and much leaner and happier; I am even employed at a gym where I coach sports for young children and workout at myself almost everyday.

Greetings!~ My name is Esther Oh and I am currently a freshman at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. I am a Korean-American residing in Queens, New York. A question that I frequently encounter is "What is it that you want to accomplish in life, what are your desires, and what exactly do you want?" My answer is happiness. I believe that happiness is what everybody wants in life, and that everybody blindly pursues with the learned culture that materialistic things define happiness. On the contrary, the most fundamental necessity of happiness is life itself, and both mental and physical health. Thus, I have embarked on a journey to living a healthy and happy lifestyle.
