Growing up as a kid, my father developed the type 2 diabetes. At first, it was not important for me to know more about it perhaps because I thought that I was too young at fifteen years old. However, when one day I had to live with him because of the tragic death of my mother was called to know every details of the disease because of the fact that I would be the one from now one taking care of my old father. The struggle! While I would be eating french fries and fried chicken for diner, I would have to cook on the side whole grains rice with baked chicken for him. I must admit that my cooking was not at its finest but, the poor guy managed to eat the given food with appetite. I became interested in knowing more about the type 2 diabetes disease not only because my father had the disease but most importantly because few months after living with my father, I had my monthly check-up at my doctors’ office who informed me that I had the trait of the disease as well. Until today, I still remember the look that I had on my face after hearing the news. For instance, not only did I have to take care of my fathers’ self but of myself as well; as a result, I conducted intense researches to learn more on how to prevent or delay the type 2 diabetes in order to better ourselves and our lives.
